The Teenage Brain is Susceptible to Addiction. The reason being the pleasure centers of a teenager’s brain develops faster than the parts of the brain responsible for decision-making and risk analysis. Maharashtra has the highest number of suicides because of alcohol addiction. 75% of youth consume alcohol before 21, which is a very alarming matter.

Project Pavitra

Project Pavitra
Project Pavitra is one of Art of Living’s flagship projects to spread awareness and education about menstruation. The vision of the project is to empower girls and women with knowledge and awareness on menstrual health and hygiene.
Menstruation is still considered a taboo subject in the Indian society.A positive attitude towards menstruation and menstrual practices needs to be inculcated in the girl child at the onset of menarche. To ensure this, it is important to make menstrual hygiene a part of health education for the girl child.
The project aims to provide a two-fold solution to menstrual problems in India by:

Generating awareness amongst adolescent girls about menstrual health and hygiene via sensitization programs in rural areas and urban slums
Distribution of eco-friendly sanitary pads for women
It covers a three day workshop that not just deals with dispelling myths and taboos but offers our adolescent girls a healthy and sustainable solution for regular menstrual problems, through time tested methods like Ayurveda and Yoga that include:
Pranayama to reduce premenstrual tension (increased irritability, bloating and cramps.
Yoga asanas to keep PMS, excessive or scanty blood/menstrual flow under check.
Diet for having healthy periods and regaining lost nutrients (using locally available food items (to avoid anemia and weakness).
Games and skits to help girls dispel myths and superstitions surrounding this natural phenomenon in a playful manner.Maintaining adequate menstrual hygiene using local resources.
The project is also providing the training to thousands of girls, 90% of whom are first generation learners, in the 702 Free Schools being run by The Art of Living in rural, tribal and economically backward area providing holistic value based education to over 70,000 students
